ACTIVITIES IN ENGLISH

Posted on June 24, 2014

To cater the needs of the younger generations, M.A.R. has gone a step beyond and has included English as the communication language between coordinators and participants during the learning activities.

To ensure the smooth incorporation of the language, the first thing we do on the arrival day is to make a general test to determine the English level of the children and the development of the workshops according to these different levels.

WHAT DO WE WORK ON?

We focus on vocabulary, everyday phrases and expressions, grammar through games, and a lot of listening comprehension.

To further integrate this work into the general learning context, we also use English during thematic workshops, handicraft activities, beach games, and sailing classes.

Activities

Posted on June 24, 2014

M.A.R. offers recreational activities and leisure programs – most of them in combination with water sports – from the month of March to the month of October (both included). Among them:

  • Nautical summer camps for children.
  • Weekend courses of dinghy sailing, windsurfing, kitesurfing, and canoeing.
  • Combined activities: sailing, hiking, golf, etc.
  • Training courses for companies.
  • Relaxing weekends at our facilities

If your business, company, or organization is interested in a custom-made offer, do not hesitate to contact us to explore the best option for you.

The company’s specialization is the teaching of water sports such as windsurf and dinghy sailing. Other complementary activities offered include the following: canoeing, paddleboarding (SUP), donut ski, paddle boats, beach sports, swimming, group dynamics, animation and energizers, environmental education workshops, climbing, etc. We strongly believe all these different proposals make the stay at Mar Acuatic Resort a much more integral experience and strengthen the sociocultural values and leisure that represent us.

The aquatic activities are carried out in the Mar Menor, one of the largest navigable saltwater lagoons characterized by its constant breezes and little swell that gives us the needed security to perform all the activities on a privileged leisure spot.

NAUTICAL ACTIVITIES IN M.A.R.

SAILING:

  • Our boats are ideal for beginners. We count with six-meter-long Spanish beginners sailboats (commonly called “gambas” or “raqueros”), which are safe and great to work with children to strengthen the values of friendship and teamwork.
  • Each day at the camp children are given a theoretical micro lesson of 20 to 30 minutes in which the basic navigation terminology is taught. They will need these concepts to be able to steer the different boats.
  • With our learning program, children are generally ready to maneuver the boats on the seventh day of the camp. It is then when they confront their last challenge: take part in a regatta.
  • The regatta consists of a circuit that is delimited by buoys strategically placed so that participants will have to apply all the previously acquired knowledge and concepts. The safety rules regarding both navigation and clothing (e.g. the use of life jackets) are made clear before the race, but a closer supervision by the instructors is carried out since they will either accompany the sailors on the boats or they will be following them with a motorboat.
WINDSURFING:
  • It is the favorite activity of most teenagers. They find it a very enjoyable sport that never goes out of fashion.
  • Our F2 windsurfing boards (220 liters) are the perfect top quality equipment for beginners. Their big size offers great stability and enhances the learning experience for the children.
  • We also count with sails of different sizes ranging from 1’5 to 5’5 meters, allowing us to work with participants of all ages.
  • The working method is gradual. The children are not left alone from the beginning. Instead, they first simulate all the windsurfing moves while having their boards tied with chains to fixed pillars of the sea bottom. This system is good for two reasons: it gives the instructor the chance to correct children’s mistakes from less than a meter away, and it enables participants to practice on a fixed place, without having to fear the wind or the possibility of being physically harmed. In this way, when the instructor considers that the child is ready to progress autonomously, he will unleash the security chain.
Among the nautical activities, besides the learning of dinghy sailing and windsurf, we offer other recreational activities that complement the two mentioned sports:

PADDLEBOARDING:

  • It is the latest water sport trend. In spite of its origin, which goes back to the mean of transport used by the Polynesian people, paddleboarding was later adopted by Hawaiian surfers and evolved into what we know today. Unlike surfing, it does not necessarily need waves since the paddle is used to move through the water while standing on the board.
  • This activity is ideal for all ages. Rowing in a standing position is fun and helps to develop balance.
  • The view obtained with this discipline is better than that of others since both the surface of the water and the bottom of it can be seen while paddleboarding due to the bipedal position of the paddler.
  • We have as well a Giant PaddleBoard for Teambuilding activities where more than 10 persons can paddle together.

CANOEING:

  • It is a fun activity for children that can be practiced in pairs or by groups of three. The exercise is very complete because it fosters teamwork, coordination, and communication.
  • The shallow depth of the Mar Menor lagoon makes it possible and safe to play games and other group dynamics there

PADDLE BOATS:

  • This harmless activity is an enjoyable ride excellent for children to interact with each other.

BANANA SKI

  • Everyone at the camp looks forward to this ride. The participants sitting on the tube have lots of fun while being towed by a motorboat.

SURROUNDINGS

Posted on June 20, 2014

Mar Acuatic Resort has its workplace in one of the most beautiful areas of southeastern Spain. It is located in the charming seaside town of Los Alcázares, right on the seafront of the Mar Menor and only five minutes away from the Murcia-San Javier airport.

Among the natural beauties and noteworthy spots near to the residence we can include the following ones:

The Mar Menor is a salty lagoon that counts with 42 km of beach and an average depth of 4 meters. It is separated from the Mediterranean Sea by a narrow piece of land called La Manga Strip (‘La Manga del Mar Menor’) and connected to it by different channels often referred as ‘golas’. The calmness of the waters enclosed – with hardly any swell -, the mildness of its temperatures with an annual average of 20 degrees Celsius, the amount of sunny days per year (more than 300), or the many sandy beaches found along its coast, make it the ideal place for all sorts of nautical activities.

In close proximity to M.A.R. participants can find other interesting zones to visit that will enrich their stay at our center.

One of them is Cabo de Palos, which is located just 27 kilometers away from M.A.R. to the south of La Manga del Mar Menor. This populated tourist area is home of a large number of hotel services, malls, recreational areas and nightlife activity. Being traditionally a fishing village, Cabo de Palos is today a place where to taste a unique cuisine, to go shopping to its many quirky shops, or to enjoy the animated nightlife. Moreover, the coasts of this town are known for having one of the most spectacular seabeds and a rich marine biodiversity.

At about the same distance, we find the Calblanque Regional Park, a great example of environmental conservation – in this case of the Mediterranian coast – where visitors can gaze miles of unspoilt beaches, as well as clean and clear waters.

On the other hand, in the town of San Pedro del Pinatar there is an awe inspiring collection of salt flats and salt banks that represent one of the last untouched areas along the Mediterranean coastline.

As for nearby urban areas, the city of Cartagena is twenty minutes away by motorway. Its impressive historical character makes it a real living museum of the Mediterranean. It offers the visitors an extensive cultural agenda, that includes from the ruins of a very well-preserved Roman theatre to the big commercial shopping centers. Another big cultural reference of southeastern Spain is the beautiful Murcia, the capital city of the province, located 60 km away by motorway.

METHOD

TARGET GROUP

Our learning method is specially designed for children and teenagers aged 7 to 17, who are offered a set of activities carefully prepared to fit their interests.

  • We provide adapted training programs to fit all the different profiles, ages, and levels. Each camp, end-of-year trip, or excursion is carefully customized to meet the needs of the participating groups and individuals. To this end, the best tool in our hands is a direct and clear communication between the center and the organizing parents/teachers/entities to give us the necessary information to change our services for each case.
  • There is no outsourcing at M.A.R.: our entire staff has been personally formed by us. In this way, we ensure that each of them knows the facilities and the surroundings and is familiar with the working culture and the center’s modus operandi. To become part of our team, all of the coordinators and instructors must have worked first with us as trainees. As for the kitchen, we only serve homemade food to offer balanced menus of the best possible quality. We take the time to adequately pick the fresh products brought to us from the fertile plain of Murcia by the regional companies that supply us.
  • Our maximum student-teacher ratio of 10:1 enables us to guarantee the quality of the learning since all of our participants are able to receive the required attention.
  • Attaining the objectives is a big purpose for us, and the best way to achieve them is by transmitting our passion for the sea through the sports practice, and doing it easily and safely.

TECHNIQUES FOR THE ACHIEVEMENT OF OBJECTIVES:

  1. DIRECT OBSERVATION: the instructor interacts personally with participants to follow the children’s progress.
  2. VERBAL REINFORCEMENT: the instructor’s role is essential to their engagement. S/he gives them advice, cheers them up, congratulates them when they perform well, or simply listens to their concerns and chats with them. In this way children are driven to improve and socialize with other participants.
  3. FORWARD CHAINING: the instructor marks the guidelines to follow, and after receiving a range of associated behaviors from them, these are divided in smaller goals that conform a new final objective. An example of this are the workshops.
  4. OBSERVATION OF THE STARTING POINT: taking into account the individual characteristics of the participants, facilities will be provided so that each child meets the convenient learning pace.
  5. ACTIVE INVOLVEMENT: activities will be designed based on the interests and motivation of each group.
  6. CONTINUOUS FOLLOW-UP: coordinators will monitor the learning process of the participant and carefully listen to their feedback.
